Our intention with this dissertation is to discuss the effects of racism on Brazilian education, using the cities of Afogados da Ingazeira - PE and Tabira - PE as analytical focal points, which are part of the Sertão do Pajeú region. The perspective of this scientific work is based on the debate on the unfolding of racism as a national social problem in the Pernambuco's hinterland region, focusing specifically on how schools behave towards discussions on this topic, addressing how students and teachers observe racism and its presence in society. The question that guided our research process was: What are the conceptions of high school students and teachers in the cities of Afogados da Ingazeira - PE and Tabira - PE about racism in Brazil? Within this spectrum, we sought to analyze the factor of racist discourse in the social context, which is why our main objective was to identify the understanding of high school teachers and students about the issue of Brazilian racism, problematizing the elements present in racist discourse and analyzing its historical-social construction. The school environment as a means of socialization and a place of learning was extensively discussed, observing the role of the school in combating racism and the existing gaps in the educational system that provide for its dissemination, investigating how this problem is established and affects the daily life of students, analyzing mainly the psychological impact of these effects on the identity, culture and citizenship formation of black students. In conclusion, we found various problems in the educational system that contribute to the propagation of racism. This assessment did not aim to establish the school as the "problem" or the "solution" for ending racism, we only reaffirm the need for the consolidation of an anti-racist education guided by an inclusive proposal that remodels this scenario of violence.
