Resumen:
Currently, 1.4 billion tons of solid waste are produced in the world per year. According to the UN 10 years from now it will be 2.2 billion tons. Waste management is expensive, around 20% to 50% of municipal budgets. In Brazil, the amount of solid waste grew 24% in a decade and reached 72.7 million tons, directly impacting the health of 77.65 million Brazilians, with a cost of around 1 billion per year for health treatment. The management of Health Service Waste (RSS) is a complex system of global dimension, which can become a public health problem, mainly due to the lack of information about its particularities. It is worth noting that with the pandemic there was a growth of RSS from 18% to 425%. The present study seeks to develop and optimize the RSS flow and implement the Health Service Waste Management Plan (PGRSS) at the Alcides Carneiro University Hospital (HUAC), in order to obtain environmental licensing. Spreadsheets, flowcharts, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and a virtual waste booklet will be created. The HUAC is located in the municipality of Campina Grande, Paraiba. The descriptive quantitative and qualitative methodology will be used in order to collect the data and information necessary to achieve the proposed objectives. The management of RSS is the exclusive responsibility of its generators. The equation of excessive generation with an environmentally safe final disposal is one of the greatest challenges of modern society. Managing RSS requires a current and up-to-date PGRSS. The success for the implementation of the PGRSS is the permanent training of all professionals.
