Resumen:
Youth and Adult Education (EJA) is an educational modality that allows serving young people,
adults and elderly people who did not have access or were unable to complete their studies. It
is already reported in the literature that this public has been overweight, poor diet and physical
inactivity, bringing various harm to health, highlighting chronic non-communicable diseases.
In this context, the objective of the present study was to evaluate food consumption, nutritional
status, as well as the risk of non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs) of EJA students. This
is a quantitative descriptive research, with EJA students, enrolled in a school in the municipality
of Parelhas - RN. As a methodological design, a questionnaire was applied to assess food
consumption and analyze the risk of developing CNCD and assessment of nutritional status.
Thirty male (43.4%) and female (56.6%) students aged between 20 and 30 years were
evaluated. Of these, 60% eat away from home, 66.7% consume fast food, soft drinks and
artificial juice at least once a week. It is also evidenced the consumption of alcohol among the
participants and that the majority of students are not smokers (73.3%), in addition, it was
observed that a third of the students did not practice physical exercises. As for the nutritional
status, about 56.7% are overweight and WHR with indication of complications from
cardiovascular diseases. The data obtained in this study are relevant to encourage the
development of educational actions aimed at the EJA public, aiming to improve the lifestyle of
these students.
