Resumo:
In the field of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering,
presently, one of the greatest problem is the development
of efficient methods to treat vinasse from alcohol distilaries .
One possibility is to treat vinasse through anaeróbio digestion, transforming the organic material of this residue into me
thane and carbon dioxide.
Nowdays, the Upflow Anaeróbio Sludge Bed reactor (UASB)
is the most widely used type of digestor. In the UASB reactor,
most of the active biomass is present as sludge with a high
methanogenic activity. Since this sludge is not found in
nature, the development of methods to produce it, is of vital importance for the feasebility of the UASB reactor.
This work. :demonstrates that it is possible to transform digested sanitary sludge into a sludge with granular
characteristis, using vinasse as a substrate.
