Abstract:
After the World Health Organization declared the disease caused by the new coronavirus
(COVID-19) a pandemic, a complex scenario of action has worried health workers across
the country, due to the fact that these professionals suffer from the precariousness of
health services and working conditions. The present study aimed to understand the
consequences of the pandemic on the mental health of pharmacists working in hospital
pharmacy services. It was a cross-sectional quantitative study, with data collection
through structured questionnaires answered by the research subjects through the internet.
demographic, social, economic and health characteristics of hospital pharmaceutical
professionals, with emphasis on mental health conditions resulting from functional
activities. The research sample consisted of 35 participants, mostly female (71.4%) single
and without children PREVALENCIA. Most respondents were residents of the State of
Paraíba (48.5%) and with a work address in the same place they live (85.7%). The largest
number of participating pharmacists had Specialization as a higher degree of training and
declared monthly income of up to R$ 5,000.00 (60%), declared having shown signs of
anxiety, depression or stress (88.6%), in addition to having felt that their mental health
was impacted in some way (91.4%). In view of the various causes of illness, the results
showed that the shortage and charges for personal protective equipment, the overload of
hospital pharmacy services, which already operated with few human resources, became
determinants for the mental illness of hospital pharmacists.
