Abstract:
Hypothyroidism is a prevalent disease not only in Brazil, but throughout the world.
Treatment consists primarily of daily administration of thyroid hormone (levothyroxine),
and should generally be maintained indefinitely by patients. The efficacy of the
treatment depends, besides the regularity in medication intake, on the good absorption
by the gastrointestinal tract. There is currently a consensus that the drug should be
administered in fasting state without any other concomitant medication and that a
minimum of 30 minutes should be observed between intake and first intake of food or
other medications. The objective of this study is to evaluate how the patients treated
at ambulatories of the HUAC endocrinology service have been using levothyroxine, in
relation to the time of day and the interval for the first feeding; evaluate brand loyalty
in use; to evaluate the sociodemographic profile of the population in analisis and if
there was alteration of the dosage in the last 12 months in detriment of laboratory
alterations. The methodology applied will be to analyze 50 patients who will be selected
in the various outpatient clinics randomly, who are carriers of hypothyroidism, are over
18 years old and willing to participate in the study, to whom a questionnaire will be
applied. The cataloged data will be compiled for the SPSS 20.0 program, where they
will undergo the necessary statistical treatment. The project will be submitted to the
Ethics and Research Committee of the HUAC, under log number
10218919.7.0000.5182. It is expected to find regularity in the use of levothyroxine by
these patients.
