Resumo:
Childhood represents a fundamental stage in human development, in which children
and adolescents explore and recognize the environment around them, and the act of
playing comprises an action relevant to motor, mental and social development in this
stage, constituting one of the ways of communication that allows actively express
feelings, anxieties and frustrations. This project aims to evaluate the perceptions of
caregivers of children and adolescents hospitalized in the pediatric ward of the
University Hospital Alcides Carneiro about the hospital toy library. Methods: An
exploratory descriptive research with a qualitative approach was carried out in the
pediatric ward of the University Hospital Alcides Carneiro (HUAC), located in the city
of Campina Grande, which receives children and adolescents for admission in the age
group from zero to seventeen. In order to construct the sociodemographic profile, a
questionnaire was initially applied with closed questions, and then an argument was
made through an interview guide with guiding questions. Results: Eight interviews
were conducted with caregivers of children and adolescents. The interviews were
closed when the criterion of theoretical satire was reached. After analyzing the
speeches of the interviewees, two thematic categories were taken: Hospital
playground: Space that amuses and alleviates the stress of hospitalization and The
differential of play space in the context of hospitalization. Final considerations: This
study reinforces that playing is an essential tool for the care of hospitalized children
and adolescents. The environment of the hospital toy library facilitates coping with the
different situations associated with hospitalization.
