Resumo:
Leprosy demands a sensitivity to the healthcare professional who approaches the
patient, since the precise identification of a suspect case can lead to an early
diagnosis and the prevention of complications. Knowledge of the way
epidemiological data on leprosy are distributed in Campina Grande is of great
value in identifying where the health care of the population of the municipality
needs more attention. This paper wants to raise the epidemiological profile of
leprosy in Campina Grande / Paraíba (PB) and to discuss the health situation and
operational capacity of the health network for diagnosis and control of this disease.
This is a cross-sectional and descriptive study in the period 2011 to 2015. The
data were obtained from the Sistema Nacional de Agravos de Notificação
(SINAN). Were found that in the period covered by the study, 409 cases of leprosy
were reported from residents of the municipality, most of them in the 35-49-year
age group with a predominance of multibacillary forms (228) and degree of
incapacity 0 of physical disability at diagnosis. It is intended to calculate the hidden
prevalence of leprosy the value founded was of 81 not diagnosed cases. It is
concluded that the structure of services and their organization contribute to the
delay in diagnosis and reinforces the need to integrate more primary health care in
the implementation of the actions to combat leprosy.
