Abstract:
Epidemiological profiles aim to describe the distribution and magnitude of human
populations health issues and thus provide essential data for planning,
implementation and evaluation of prevention, control and treatment of diseases. The
observation of fast and significant epidemiological changes that the HIV/AIDS
pandemic had suffered over the years, and the lack of epidemiological studies in the
region corroborate the importance of the subject. This study aims to describe the
epidemiological profile of notified patients with HIV between 2010 and 2015 in a
referential university hospital in the city of Campina Grande/PB. This is a descriptive
epidemiological study, cross-sectional, retrospective with secondary data source.
The variables were: age in the notification, sex, region and city of origin, scholarship,
exposure category, evolution and time to death. 317 records of notifiable were
studied. There was a predominance of cases in males, aged between 25 and 60
years. Regarding the origin, most people lived in urban areas and in Campina
Grande. The complete or incomplete first grade was the school education most found
between the study data. As for the transmission, sexual exposure was the most
prevalent, and the main form was heterosexual relation. There was a significant
reduction in cases of vertical transmission. It was seen that more than half of the
population remains alive and that most of deaths had as main cause Acquired
Immune Deficiency Syndrome. It was found that the city of Campina Grande/PB
accompanied the national epidemiological profile of HIV virus/AIDS, confirming the
tendency for heterosexuals, pauperization, increase at the countryside and aging of
the epidemic.
