Abstract:
Autism Spectrum Disorder is defined as a neuropsychiatric disorder wich
presentes itself with limitation in social relationships, in communication and variety
of interest and behavior since the first childhood. The Ministério da Saúde in
Guidelines for the Rehabilitation of People with Autism Spectrum Disorders
stresses the need for follow-up of all family members, assigning health services
and support networks to effective participation in the success of family adaptation.
The qualitative research that evaluated the changes in the family dynamics of
autistic children after being followed up at the Center for Psychosocial Child and
Adolescent Care was conducted at the Psychosocial Child Care Center located in
the city of Campina Grande, being the information collected in semi-structured
interviews, which were later analyzed by the method of content analysis in the
thematic modality proposed by Bardin. Three themes were identified from the
reports of caregivers: the discovery of the social being; Caregivers: role in family
dynamics and proposals for the growth of CAPSi. The interviewees reported that
the changes occurred in the infants were related to the development of their social
skills at home, mainly related to the acquisition of speech and the interaction by
the look and attention given to the parents, always having these aspects
correlated to a better family relationship. The benefits are also attributed to the
evolution of the subjects as caregivers, through access to information about the
disorder, pointing the CAPSi team as a relevant participant in this process. The
new model of family relationship demonstrates how to highlight the way of dealing
with autistic children, permeated by better communication and safety in the
process. Regarding the needs in the service, it’s pointed the absence of a speech
therapist in the team for a better investment in language acquisition.
