Resumo:
Ornamental plants are used in architecture, many of these are also toxic.
Every ten cases of poisoning by plants in Brazil, six involve children under nine
years, where 80% of these are accidentals. This study aimed to carry out an
extension activity with discussions and lectures directed to pedagogy students of
UFCG, with regard to their knowledge on toxic and medicinal plants, highlighting the
awareness of children about the dangers. The participants behaved very active and
in an attitude of satisfaction during lectures, saying the relevance of the topics, as
well as the relevant developments in the field of the addressed content. The activities
shown a positive impact, and continued for the following years. It is expected that in a
medium term the intervention may have an impact not only in the participants, and
can also prevent accidents with children.
