Resumo:
Among the thyroid disorders that leads to increase of volume, the one that is very
prevalent is Thyroid Nodular Disease (TND), which has Thyroid Cancer as
representative. They both have increased their incidence progressively, calling
attention to the need of early diagnosis, leading to excellent prognosis. Among all
thyroid cancers, the most prevalent is Differentiated Thyroid Cancer (DTC), that
affects more: women, white race and middle-age people. On purpose of collect
data concerning to this subject, this review evaluated the frequency of positive
results to DTC on thyroidectomies performed by Endocrinolgy Service of Hospital
Universitário Alcides Carneiro (HUAC), on Campina Grande (PB). It was made a
cross-sectional study, retrospective, with descriptive nature and quantity approach,
from patients records data and results of histopathologic exams of 90 patients,
showing as middle age 45,7 years old (16 to 79). 84,4% of patients were from
female gender, 83% from white race, 52,2% were from Campina Grande, 35,6%
were submitted to complete thyroidectomy and 23,3% were confirmed as having
DTC. These results are equivalent to the ones described on medical literature.
Therefore, is evident the need of improving medical and social attention to this
subject, in order to make early diagnosis and avoid organic, emotional and
economical disorders to the patients.
