Résumé:
Any structure is subject to the development of pathological manifestations, either
because of its natural degradation throughout its useful life, or because of mistakes
made during some of its stages, namely: design, execution and maintenance. In the
case structures, the most common manifestations are cracks. However, cracks can
manifest themselves through different origins. In this sense, this research had the
general objective of identifying and analyzing the main causes of crack formation and
indicate the main techniques for treating them in a residential building. To achieve the
proposed objective, a case study was carried out in a residence located in the center
of the city of Desterro-PB. It was noted the absence of execution of lintels and counter
lintels, retraction of the laying mortar and hygroscopic movements. Thus, it was found
that the cracking process identified in this building was caused by the absence of
projects and errors in the execution phase. Without any technical or normative
recommendation, the building was built based on knowledge based on empirical
knowledge.
