Abstract

This course completion work is the result of a qualitative study, using an integrative literature review as a method, and aimed to develop a theoreticalmethodological framework addressing the categories: work process, aging and social protection, understanding the performance of Social Workers in the protection policy for the elderly in the State of Paraiba and to evaluate the main limitations to the professional practice of Social Workers in guaranteeing the protection of the elderly. The guiding question of this study aims to understand how the aging category is approached in the area of Social Work, considering the contribution of the social worker in activities provided through public policies and social initiatives, aimed at the elderly. In order to propose answers to the guiding question presented, this research analyzed the course completion papers prepared by students of the Social Service course at public universities in the State of Paraiba, between the years 2018 to 2023. The search was carried out in the digital collections available in the libraries of the Federal University of Campina Grande - UFCG, UEPB and UFPB. In addition, the work emphasizes the fundamental role of the Social Worker in this process, acting in defense of the citizenship of the elderly in everyday life. Finally, the research briefly addresses the need to ensure the rights of the elderly, encourage a healthy and respectful aging process, combat inequality and violence, in addition to strengthening both public policies and the role of social workers in this context.
