Resumo:
The national production of banana occupies an area of 456,922 hectares, with production of 7,113,594 tons of fruit, being an activity that provides exacerbated possibilities for agriculture in Brazil, providing the economic and social development of those who exercise this occupation. From this perspective, this research project aims to assess the level of sustainability of banana production in the municipality of Pombal, State of Paraíba. For its development, a bibliographical survey was carried out on the subject under study, followed by the application of sessions and semi-structured interviews with 40 producers, with the sample residing in the municipal seat and in rural communities. Based on these data, the quality of life, social capital and environment indices were calculated to then calculate the sustainability index and assess the level of sustainability, analyze the technological level used in banana production in the area under study and, finally, it was A proposal was made for mitigating measures that contribute to improving the variables that make up the sustainability index.
