Résumé:
The aim of this research was to evaluate the knowledge of caregivers of
patients submitted to hysterectomy, sectorectomy, quadrantectomy and
mastectomy in the early detection of cervical and breast cancer. This is a
descriptive, cross-sectional, documental epidemiological study with a non-
probabilistic sample. The total sample comprised 39 women caregivers of patients
undergoing surgery in Ward A of the University Hospital Alcides Carneiro - HUAC.
The mean age was 39.2565 (± 12.6402), being 18 and 67 respectively the lowest
and highest age of the women evaluated. We observed that 14 (35.89%) were
illiterate, 06 (15.38%) had incomplete or complete elementary education, 18
(46.15%) had incomplete or complete secondary education and 01 (2.56%) had
higher education incomplete. When asked if they knew of any form of early
diagnosis of breast cancer, 22 (56.41%) said yes. When asked if they knew of any
form of cervical cancer prevention, 25 (64.10%) answered yes.
