Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) is a term that refers to a group
heterogeneous range of diseases that affect children and adolescents, with onset before
16 years old. It is mainly characterized by the presence of arthritis in at least
at least one joint, with a minimum duration of six weeks. It is divided accordingly
with its form of clinical presentation into seven categories, systemic arthritis,
oligoarthritis (persistent or extended), rheumatoid factor negative polyarthritis,
positive rheumatoid factor polyarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, arthritis related to
enthesitis and undifferentiated arthritis. Children with JIA have worse quality of life
health-related life when compared to healthy controls, according to
measures of physical and psychological well-being. This situation ends up reflecting
negatively affect emotional, social and academic development. The present study
main objective is to determine the clinical and epidemiological profile of patients
with juvenile idiopathic arthritis, treated at the University Hospital Alcides Carneiro
(HUAC). For this purpose, a descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional study was carried out
cross-sectional with a quantitative approach through the collection of data from medical records
from a semi-structured questionnaire. Patients were selected with
the diagnosis of JIA attended from 2011 to 2016, totaling 15 patients.
As for the involvement by gender, there was a predominance of females (53.3%). The shape
polyarticular was the most frequent (60%). The average age of onset
of symptoms was seven years and nine months and the mean age at diagnosis was
nine years and two months. The time elapsed between the onset of symptoms and the
diagnosis ranged from less than one year to five years. were not identified
reports of chronic anterior uveitis, nor the application of JADAS 27 (Juvenile Arthritis
Disease Activity Score) or CHAQ (Childhood Health Assesmente Questionnaire).
