Cartas Portuguesas e Amor de Perdição: um cotejo entre as paixões frustradas das Marianas.

Abstract

This work aims to propose an approximation between the works belonging to Portuguese Literature: Portuguese Letters and the novel Doomed Love, by Camilo Castelo Branco. Considering that these works belong to different historical contexts and literary aesthetics - the first one being an epistolary work from the Baroque style; and the second one being an ultra-romantic novel, this discussion aims to highlight the points at which the two works, distinct at first, converge in terms of narrative conception. In addition to seeking to establish a close relationship between the fictional character of the novel, Mariana, and the nun Mariana Alcoforado. For this purpose, a theoretical basis was elaborated that combines the studies of Moisés (2008) about Portuguese Literature, the teachings about the theory of dialogism, elaborated by Bakhtin (2013), some assignments of Comparative Literature, presented by Carvalhal (2010), all contributing, thus, to highlight the possibility of a dialogue epistemological between them. This is an interpretative and qualitative work in which the results achieved tend to confirm the existence of points of contact and intersection etween the Portuguese works Portuguese Letters and Doomed Love, as well as between the characters, both called Mariana, the lived and the imagined.
