Resumo:
This study search to point out the potential of comic books as a source for the analyzis of history, seeking to establish a relationship between the character of comics Zé Carioca and the Vargas period, given the contradiction that permeates the two actors of this study, while one exalts the (worker) the other does not even like to hear such a word. The temporal cut will be located between the 1930s and 1960s periods that marked the beginning of the Vargas government and the creation of the Zé Carioca parrot for the good neighborly policy established by the United States of America, with the aim of bringing nations closer and defusing the risk of communism . The resources that allowed this analysis were in charge of comic books produced from the delimited period, as well as bibliographies that help to elucidate this relation. Finally, it is proposed to demonstrate the constructive elements of national identity that appear in magazines. Comic books as source come from a single place, their value can not be overlooked, or left out, so this study outlines a picture of this relationship.
