Exames sorológicos: avaliação do conhecimento dos Cirurgiões-Dentistas do Sistema Público de Saúde do Município de Patos Paraíba.

Abstract

For full patient care, it may be necessary for the dental surgeon to request complementary serological tests, in order to obtain an overview of the patient's health status, besides contributing to the early diagnosis and treatment of systemic problems. For this, it is essential that the professional has an understanding of these tests to perform the request and interpretation of them. This study aims to show the perception of dental surgeons who compose the Primary Health Care in the city of Patos-PB about the serological tests. The research data were collected through a self-completion questionnaire, provided by the researcher, in the professionals' field of work. Thirty five interviewees participated in the survey, and 91.4% of them (n=32) said that they do not request serological tests in their clinical routine. Regarding the safety in requesting this type of exam, 37.1% (n=13) declared insecurity. For all that, it is inferred that most of the dentists who integrate the Basic Health Units of the city in question, showed to have security regarding the request of these tests, however, a significant portion does not have such condition, besides that this request is not part of the clinical routine of most of the interviewees. This situation may be derived from possible academic deficits on this topic, which corroborates the need for professional updates to fill this gap.
