Résumé:
Sexual and gender minorities, known as the LGBTQIAPN+ community, is the term that refers
to the social group whose gender identity, sexual orientation or practice differs from that of the
majority of the society in which they live. In this context, the dental surgeon needs to recognize
the heterogeneity of this group in order to offer a quality dental service, in a way that conveys
confidence and offers adequate assistance, verifying the indispensable role of teaching sexual
and gender diversity in the dental courses of the Higher Education Institutions (HEI) of the
country. This study presents itself as a cross-sectional research with a quantitative approach,
with a sample consisting of the pedagogical plans of the dentistry courses of public HEIs from
all over the country, whose objective was to evaluate curricular components that address the
theme of health care from sexual and gender minorities in the dentistry courses of public HEIs
in Brazil. The results showed that, in 2022, there were fifty-seven HEIs offering dentistry
courses in Brazil, most of them in the southeast and northeast regions. Only five HEIs, in the
Northeast, Southeast and South, offer subjects that address themes and content related to the
health of sexual and gender minorities, with a similar distribution for optional and mandatory
subjects, with course load varying from 30h to 60h, mostly in the 3rd semester of graduation.
It was observed, therefore, that this theme is still little addressed in public universities,
demonstrating the need to rethink the pedagogical plans of dental courses, seeking to promote
the inclusion and welcoming of this community.
