Resumo:
Tooth whitening is one of the most popular methods in the dental office, as it has an
immediate and conservative effect. In addition, it is divided into two types: the internal,
which is performed on pulped teeth. And the external, such as at-home and in-office
bleaching, which is performed on teeth with vital pulp. Aesthetics have been
understood as a way to increase patients' self-confidence and, therefore, contribute
positively to social relationships. In view of this, the present study aimed to verify the
aesthetic harmonization through dental bleaching in undergraduate dentistry students
at the Federal University of Campina Grande, Campus Patos, Paraíba (PB). This
study was cross-sectional, observational, descriptive, with a quantitative approach,
and survey, adopting a structured questionnaire as a data collection strategy, applied
to 258 students. And it encompassed questions about sociodemographic aspects,
tooth whitening, the motivation in relation to the search for this aesthetic procedure,
and finally a psychosocial evaluation of dental aesthetics. With the results obtained, it
was observed that 60,9% of the students are not satisfied with the appearance of their
teeth and want to undergo dental bleaching. In addition, the main motivation of the
participants to have whiter teeth is self-esteem, which 88,8% confirmed this statement.
Therefore, it is clear that dental aesthetics have a direct influence on the quality of life
of undergraduate students.
