Resumo:
Nosocomial pneumonia consists of a subclinical infection of the lung parenchyma
which has, among its etiopathogenic factors, the colonization of the oropharynx by
pathogenic bacteria such as Acinetobacter spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia
coli, Klebsiella spp, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter spp., Proteus mirabilis and
Streptococcus pneumoniae. This work sought to identify the presence of these
pathogenic bacteria in the orotracheal tubes used by patients undergoing mechanical
ventilation in the intensive care units (ICU) of the Regional Hospital Deputado Janduhy
Carneiro. Six orotracheal tubes were collected over a period of six months, samples
were cultivated in Blood Agar and Mac Conkey media, macroscopic evaluation,
catalase test and microscopic evaluation of the cultivated colonies. Regarding the
results, it was found that none of the samples had Staphylococcus aureus and
hypotheses and paths were outlined for the identification of gram-negative bacilli
(found in 61.9% of the samples), gram-negative bacilli and/or cocci ( 19.4%),
gram-negative diplococci (9.52%), gram-positive bacilli (4.76%) and gram-positive
cocci (4.76%). It was concluded that, although bacteria were identified whose
macroscopic and microscopic aspects resemble those of microorganisms related to
PAVM, further studies are needed to identify their genera and species.
