Filtration is the process that takes place through the passage of a fluid through a porous
medium, thus being able to retain suspended and colloidal material in it. The technology
involved in water treatment through a slow filter as an alternative product to the supply
of drinking water is what drives this research. In this sense, the aim is to assess three
filters with four different filtering materials as a preventive mitigation measure in river
water. For the design of the filters, it was necessary to design three columns in descending
flow designed for a single-family system and only then make them with the four filtering
materials: kaolin, green clay, white clay and sand. To analyze the efficiency of the
prototypes, river water (raw and treated) was analyzed according to the Standard
Methods, aiming at adapting to the limits recommended in Ordinance MS 888/21. From
the results obtained, it is concluded that it is of fundamental importance to continue the
studies for a longer filtration career due to the potential that the system presented for a
contribution to sanitation in Brazil, reflecting on the public health of the Brazilian
population.
