Resumen:
In this study, aimed to make the adverse environmental impacts assessment
resulting of the insufficiency or lack of basic sanitation in the city of Catolé do Rocha-
PB. To carry out the research, the following was done: the description of the current
conditions of the 04 (four) axes of basic sanitation in the city; the simplified
environmental diagnosis in the physical, biotic and anthropic means; the identification
of adverse environmental impacts in the study area, through Environmental Impact
Assessment methods: Ad Hoc, Check Lists and Interaction Matrix; the selection and
classification of significant environmental impacts, using the reference criteria: quality
of life, public health and potential for environmental degradation; the proposition of
environmental control measures and environmental plans and programs for the area
of basic sanitation. According to the results, it was verified: the insufficiency of
sanitation services in the study area, mainly in the axes of sanitary sewage and
urban drainage and management of rainwater; that the anthropic environment
presented the highest number of interactions; 150 environmental impacts were
identified, of which 99 were classified as "Significant" and 29 as "Very Significant", for
which environmental control measures and environmental plans and programs were
proposed aimed at regularizing basic sanitation actions and improving quality
environment in the study area.
