Abstract:
The Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a simple procedure, routine and of great
importance for diagnosing cardiac pathologies. It is important that the nurse has
scientific knowledge and prepared to carry out this monitoring/examination as soon as
how to interpret it, in order to intervene effectively in the face of any change in rhythm
cardiac. Objective: to evaluate the knowledge of nursing students and nurses
recent graduates from a public university on the realization and interpretation of
electrocardiogram. Method: this is a longitudinal descriptive study and approach
quantitative study that was carried out with 40 students and recent graduates from a public university,
out of a total of 52 instruments sent (population). The instrument used to collect
data was a questionnaire in GoogleDocs form format and compiled in the spreadsheet
Google. Results: Only 7.5% of respondents assess their knowledge of interpreting
of the ECG as good, and reported that the grading does not provide enough space for
practice in ECG generating insecurity in the performance and interpretation of the exam, and few
sought to train themselves on ECG through courses, lectures, extra-academic study and video
classroom. Conclusion: there are gaps in the knowledge of students and graduates about basic notions
performance and interpretation of the ECG, which may be associated with non-payment of the
curriculum, producing segmented knowledge.
