Resumo:
Child nutrition involves several factors, and despite the studies that prove the benefits of
exclusive breastfeeding up to six months, breastfeeding rates
exclusive still remain very low. For this situation to be reversed, it is necessary to
that the health professional is ready to support and promote breastfeeding
maternal and food introduction at the correct time. The early introduction of other liquids,
in addition to breast milk, it is related to future problems. The objective was to evaluate the prevalence
the early introduction of other beverages in the complementary feeding of children up to 6
months, assisted by the Basic Health Units of the Municipality of Barra de Santa Rosa-PB.
An interview was carried out with the mothers of infants in order to obtain information about the
introduction of other beverages, in addition to breast milk, early. The results found
the early introduction of other drinks in the complementary feeding of children up to 6
months (52.6%). In socioeconomic relationships, most participants reported having
low income (94.7%) and low education (42.1%), having a support network (68%), and whose
pregnancy was unplanned (36.8%), in addition to having no intercurrences during pregnancy.
pregnancy (74%), and high prevalence of cesarean delivery (73.7%). About the duration of AME in
first half of the infant's life, the percentage was half (47.4%) and the main liquid
offered was industrialized infant formula (56%), whose main reason mentioned was
“insufficient milk”, where the “small amount” was decisive for the introduction of other liquids.
The results obtained will serve to guide actions in primary health care, aimed at
encourage the promotion of exclusive breastfeeding and food introduction, in the period
recommended for pregnant and puerperal women, in order to emphasize the importance of EBF until 6
months, informing about the risks that early food introduction can bring. Furthermore,
guide health professionals about the approaches that should be used for the
compliance with these actions.
