Resumo:
Introduction: With the creation of Law No. 9.787 on generics in Brazil, there are now three
different types of drugs: the reference drug, the similar drug and the generic drug. Generic
drugs are interchangeable with a reference product, provided they can prove their efficacy,
safety and quality. Objective: To analyze acceptance of pharmacological therapy involving
generic drugs from the point of view of the elderly. Methods: This is a descriptive study with
a qualitative approach aimed at analyzing acceptance of drug therapy involving generic
drugs from the perspective of the elderly. The research was conducted in Primary Care in
the municipality of Cuité, located in the microregion of Curimataú Occidental in the interior
of the state of Paraíba. 12 elders participated in the research, after collection, the text corpus
was processed in IRAMUTEQ, where the categorization work occurred. Results and
Discussion: In this context, we obtained the Descending Hierarchical Classification
dendogram constituted from the final material that analyzed six texts and generated six
categories to be discussed, being these: "Medical prescription"; "Confidence in the generic
drug"; "Quality of the generic drug"; "Cost-effectiveness"; "Difference between drug
classes" and "Resistance in acceptance". Final considerations: We conclude that there was a
significant increase in generic drug knowledge, acceptance and use. To this end, it is evident
that the factor that most favors the choice of these drugs is price. Nursing plays a key role in
promoting adherence to the use of generic drugs.
