Resumo:
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental condition
of children, who present associated distinct behavioral patterns, alterations
neurological, cognitive and sensory. Food selectivity is a common feature in
people with autism, negatively influencing food, nutritional and
quality of life of the autistic person. Thus, the study aims to understand the
influence of food selectivity in the evolution of symptoms that cause disorders
gastrointestinal and dietary disorders in TEA. This study is an integrative review
of literature based on extensive documental analysis, having as the main source of
information scientific articles. The search for material took place through the databases of
Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and National Library of Medicine (PubMed). You
following terms were used (keywords and delimiters) and combinations of
themselves using the Boolean operators AND and OR: Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD),
autism, food selectivity, food, and the importance of pharmacists for ASD. They were
studies published in the years (2008 - 2023) that had information on the subject were sought
proposed. Thus, a total of 106 scientific articles and 2 booklets were obtained, which deal with the theme
with relevance, in order to minimize damages and intercurrences to the health of the person with
autism. The results presented highlight the importance of adequate nutrition
and free of components that cause gastrointestinal and eating disorders, such as: gluten and
casein. In this context, the role of the pharmacist in guidance, care and attention, in
development of studies on beneficial and unwanted effects, and on monitoring and
follow-up of drug therapy for people with ASD. Taking into account the aspects
observed, it is concluded that the data presented help to understand the complexity of the
person with autism and the characteristics presented, which cover aspects
behavioral, sensorial, alimentary and functional, whose understanding allows to minimize
intercurrences to the health of these children.
