Abstract

Thinking about Geography is to seek beyond what already exists, as it is not only used above all to wage war, but to form conscious citizens who can somehow contribute to changes in social dynamics. The general objective of this research is to analyze the teaching of geography and the category of place in the construction of the student's critical and social thinking, thinking about the student's teaching and learning. Regarding the methodological procedures used to develop the contents proposed during this work, bibliographical research was used with a basic descriptive approach. A survey was carried out with studies already carried out on the subject, where theses, dissertations, monographs and books, etc. were used. Such readings for the survey of the material used were taken from the virtual library, library of theses, Google Scholar, books of the authors mentioned above, so these procedures resulted in the construction of the theoretical framework of this work. It is important to emphasize the importance of teaching geography and how it is responsible for the critical development of students, thus making them become responsible citizens aware of their rights and duties. Just as the role of the teacher in this path is fundamental, without him the teaching-learning process cannot happen in an attractive way for the student. That is why it is important that the teacher is a guide in this process, as well as the ways he will use to obtain his objectives. Therefore, it is necessary to make the student feel that he belongs to the place where he lives and that he is an active part of the social environment.
