O som que ecoa na tradição de um povo: história e musicalidade da Banda Cabaçal da Comunidade Quilombola “Os Quarenta” da cidade de Triunfo - PB.

Abstract

This research consists of studying the Banda Cabaçal de Triunfo, in Paraíba, in its sociocultural trajectory, notably musical, seeking to understand its creation as a mechanism of social insertion, cultural re-signification and resistance to the customs and traditions of remnants of a quilombola community. The aforementioned cabaçal band represents a rich cultural heritage for the city, having as its cradle of origin a quilombola community from Pombal, also in Paraíba, which after internal conflicts moved to the small village where the city was formed. Treated as a great representative of the cultural manifestations of Triunfo, the incorporation of these people into the life of the community added cultural, economic and social values, contributing to the construction of local history. In this perspective, this work aims to analyze the cabaçal band as a cultural factor of representative space and identity, bringing a discussion in which the musicality linked to several aspects arising from a popular and/or folkloric tradition can be made as an object of social integration, of cultural resistance and resignification of a people or community. For this, two methodological strategies will be used in the research. The first will be of a bibliographical nature, in which works that bring the discussion of the concepts that will be addressed within the research will be worked, as well as the analysis of works of local historiography on the subject. The second will consist of an analysis of oral sources, based on interviews with people linked to the local history and the community that formed the band. With the necessary theoretical support, we will deal with concepts such as popular culture, tradition and identity.
