Resumen:
Urban mobility directly interferes with the well-being of the population, because its
non-planning implies consequences such as congestion, poor fluidity, safety, accidents, collisions
and run over. The objective of this work is to evaluate the technical feasibility for the
implementation of a traffic light from the Brazilian Manual of Traffic Signaling - Volume V.
The study is located in the municipality of Patos, specifically at the intersection of Enaldo
Torres and Severino Dutra Streets, an intersection of great importance, as it interconnects the
neighborhoods of the central and northern axes. For the study, the spreadsheet provided by the
STTRANS education center was considered, which contains accidents recorded in the period
from January 2018 to June 2019 on the studied roads. The traffic count and on-site visits took
place from March 21 to 26, 2022, on typical days, disregarding Saturday and Sunday, accounting
for all types of vehicles passing through the intersections. With the data, it was found that
Friday was the most critical day with a total of 2770 vehicles passing through the intersection,
from which a number of empty cycles of 0.003 was reached, with this the operating cycle time
was dimensioned reaching a value of 72 seconds and with photographic records it is possible
to verify the conditions that the intersection operated. The analysis at the intersection found the
need for semaphore implementation at the intersection because the criteria evaluated pointed to
this solution, together with the complementary signaling that will provide better fluidity for
users, reducing the number of accidents.
