Résumé:
(1911-1986) and the power games he exercised in the period 1964-1975. Understanding his
movements from his position as a man of the social elite, landowner, of family lineage
inserted in the power relations in the sertão of Paraíba, as well as understanding the
particularities of politics and kinship. For this, we will return to the economic and social
scenario of Paraíba since the 30s, to the events that made possible the figure of this study to
have an intense performance in the state and national political field. We address issues that
problematize his place as an oligarch, his approximations, his dissidence and his interference
in the political arena that marked his party affiliations, his distinct paths as his speeches and
positions in the period of the so-called Brazilian Military Dictatorship. Analyzing Sátyro's
participation in the pre-coup, passing through the support during the process of political
changes in 1964, discussing the "decline" in the political scene until his rise in society, as well
as understanding the actions that granted him the position of Governor of Paraiba. From the
point of view of the approach, it is an exploratory research and bibliographic review, with
theoretical support in the so-called New Political History, and dialogues with authors such as
Dreifuss (1988) Fico (2004), Foucault (1999), Gurjão (1994), Lewin (1993) and Mendes
(2019). In this way, we will work with books that have content about his political
bibliography, which contains all his speeches as a parliamentarian, they are: “Parliamentary
Profiles, Ernani Sátyro, nº61” (2011), “Tradition and Renovation” (1994). As well, we will
use another documentary contribution such as the newspapers circulating in Paraíba in the
periods worked, such as “Diário da Borborema”. "The Union". Finally, we will use the Ernani
Sátyro Foundation (FUNES) to understand its place of memory in society. Thus, it is a study
of local history and social history with a focus on political, party, interests, and dominant
power relations in society.
