Abstract:
This study aimed to analyze the performance of a diesel cycle engine installed in the Thermal
generation laboratory of the UFCG, when it is put to work in dual form, using diesel fuel and natural
gas while, since this type of operation can improve the control of pollutant emissions in engines of this
type, besides promoting a gain in efficiency. Thus, several experiments were made which changed is
the rate of replacement of diesel by natural gas and power system, concluded that there was an
increase in efficiency for higher replacement rates; the level of SO2 drops to zero in all tests, when the
engine operates with a replacement rate of 80%, an increase of emissions of NO; the percentage of
NO2 are very small and can be neglected, the lowest levels of CO are found to operate with 80%
substitution, the CO2 levels increase with increasing power, the concentrations of methane CxHy to
decrease rates 60% and 80% substitution.
