Resumo:
In this work a reactor for chlorination of ethylene to produce EDC, used in the polymer industry, was
simulated by using techniques of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The CFX-10 software was used
in the simulations and factorial planning to define the new distributor geometry. The results of
simulations may be useful in defining new operating conditions for the reactor as well as in the design
of a new geometry for the distributor of ethylene, in order to minimize the loss of ethylene. The reactor
for ethylene chlorination of the Chlorine – Soda’s BRASKEM unit, located in Maceió, Brazil was used
as case study.
