Análise do vento no Aeroporto Internacional do Recife, Pernambuco: biênio 2007-2008.

Abstract

The variability of the wind observed at the Recife International Airport/Guararapes – Gilberto Freire is investigated with an emphasis on the seasonal and diurnal variations. Hourly data for the years of 2007 and 2008 made available by the Brazilian Air Command were used. The wind direction frequency distribution based on 16 sectors of the wind rose, shows the predominant winds to be on the east-northeast (ENE), east (E), east-southeast (ESE), southeast (SE) or south-southeast (SSE) sector. Winds on the south (S), southsouthwest (SSW) and southwest (SW) sectors were registered from March to August, rainy season. The monthly mean intensities were higher in the second semester, a period of South Atlantic subtropical high dominance. They varied from 3 m/s in May, when the SW and SSE sectors dominated (frequencies around 20%), to 6.7 m/s in September, when the SSE sector predominated (frequencies around 40%). The hourly mean intensities were higher between 12 and 15 LT (local time), and lower between 4 and 7 LT. The maximum value occurred in July (8.3 m/s) and the minimum in April 2008 (1.4 m/s). The local circulation (breeze) had winds on the northwest (southeast) quadrant during nighttime and early morning (daytime), with lower (higher) intensity at the beginning and end of the year (April to August). In general, the breeze was stronger in 2008, with maximum intensity of 3.2 m/s in June and July.
