Abstract:
In some single-phase systems, power decoupling is necessary to balance the difference
between constant power at load side and double frequency pulsating power at AC side.
The balance power is generally handled by passive circuits. This work proposes a new
single-phase interleaved Zeta rectifier with an active power decoupling technique. Based
on this new circuit, a study, presentation and comparison is performed in order to have
an alternative to the Zeta circuit with power decoupling existing in the literature, which
has low efficiency. For this, new considerations and mathematical formulas are presented
as a correction to the first study carried out for this rectifier, which does not need to
add reactive elements to the original Zeta topology. The technique ensures a smaller
capacitor at the output and allows the use of mica, film, polyester or ceramic capacitors,
which are more reliable than electrolytic capacitors and of longer life, giving the rectifier
greater reliability. The control diagram used to ensure a constant voltage at the circuit
output and a high power factor is presented and explained. Analyzes and discussions
based on experimental results and simulations made in MATLAB/Simulink software are
also presented, with a focus on detailing the effects of part of the losses inherent to the
topology.
