Abstract:
Objective: to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of prevalence, mortality and survival
rates of childhood cancer. Methodology: This is an epidemiological, documentary,
retrospective cohort study, with a 13-year follow-up of children and adolescents with cancer.
In addition to the descriptive analysis, the prevalence of neoplasms, survival rates, and the
incidence of death and cure were clarified. Results: The majority were male, with prevalence of leukemia, lymphoma and tumors of the central nervous system, predominantly chemotherapy. The years with the most diagnoses were 2014, 2016 and 2017 and the survival rate of the studied population was 50.2% at the end of the study. The incidence of death and cure per 1000 person-months was 8.75 and 10.08 respectively. Conclusion: A low survival rate was evidenced, and the findings of this study will enable the implementation of screening, diagnosis and early treatment strategies for childhood cancer.
