Resumo:
Any preventable event that generates the inappropriate use of medication or
harms the patient can be considered a medication error. In order for medication errors to be
minimized, it is necessary to know which risk factors lead to their occurrence, which actions
are taken when they are identified and which measures can be taken to prevent such cases.
Objective: To analyze the strategies of good nursing practices related to medication
administration in pediatrics. Method: The research was developed in a teaching hospital
located in the city of Campina Grande/PB. Results: The most used strategies during the
medication process involve measures such as checking the medication right before and during
administration, correctly identifying patient beds, identifying patients through wristbands
containing the necessary information and always carefully observing the medical prescription.
before preparing the medications. Discussion: The result was seven classes, nominally
categorized by the researcher, namely: “Medication errors”, “Dosage errors”, “Team conduct
in the face of medication errors”, “Good practices in medication administration”,
“Complications involving administration of medication”, “Format and correct analysis of the
medical prescription” and “Patient safety”. Final considerations: The most used strategies
during the medication process involve measures such as checking the medication right before
and during administration, correctly identifying patient beds, identifying patients through
wristbands containing the necessary information, carefully observing the medical prescription
before preparing the medications and having an adaptation period for those professionals who
have just arrived in the sector.
