Resumen:
This research had as focal semi-arid ecosystems in Brazil, which have built or natural vegetation
consisting of cacti and succulents of native or exotic origin adapted to the region. This aimed to examine
the potential of these species so that may be indicated for the urban and rural landscape in the Brazilian
semi-arid. The field research was developed in the hinterlands of Paraiba, in three parts: a) Selection and
identification of species "in situ", b) analysis of the potential landscape and c) an indication of the species
to the urban and rural landscape. Were selected 59 species distributed in eight families, the most
frequent Cactaceae and Liliaceae. As highlighted the potential (aesthetic and functional), the species
were recommended for use in built landscapes (rural and urban) for planting alone or in associations.
Most have separate attributes for planting in the landscape compositions. As to the planting associated
with the indication for cultivation in isolated group stand out for some live-and embroidery. This study
identified the importance of the species studied to landscape composition in semi-arid Brazilian, because
providing aesthetic and functional benefits in environments in which they operate.
