Abstract:
This article presents investigation results concerning the textual production conditions in Portuguese
textbooks, used in 4º and 5º grades in elementary school. It is an interpretative and descriptive study,
developed through bibliography revision and documental analysis, based on theoretical and methodological
references of a discursive and interactionist language and written language teaching conception. Such
references have guided not only the research conception and development, but also the corpus analysis.
The data makes clear that the analysed books propose activities and strategies in which the main conditions
needed for the opinion text genre comprehension and production are observed, although part of this
information is only found in the teacher’s guide. It is suggested that this information should also be included
in the student’s book. In conclusion, the reviewed books encourage the teaching-learning practices
development, which gives meaning to the students’ written production.
