Resumo:
In this research, our purpose was to investigate the work environment and the possibilities to face direction to oral language in Portuguese classes in basic education. Two teachers, that had just finished the Letters course at two public universities in Campina Grande, Paraíba, and that had been working from 2008 to 2009, took part in the research. The study was realized through the analysis of theoretical and didactic materials (including technological and written resources), which were provided by the schools where the teachers that took part in this research work, through the investigation of the teachers` annual teaching plans and through an audio recorded interview with the two teachers. The data analysis shows us that, according to the teachers point of view, the problems related to the systematic oral language teaching are connected with the lack of academic preparation of the teachers and with the lack of technologic resources at the universities that they came from and at the institutions that they work.
