Abstract:
This research had the objective to point who the new readers of the cordel are, their interests and what
motivates them to perform these readings. The corpus chosen for investigation were the leaflets by Manoel
Monteiro, Maria Godelivie and Janduhi Dantas, poets who publish leaflets in Paraíba and have a significant
production since 2000, setting up as part of the authors most read by new readers. Based on interviews and
bibliographic surveys, the analysis was conducted from CAVIGNAC (2006), GALVÃO (2001), GARCÍA
CANCLINI (2007) and AYALA (1997, 2003) and it was identified the changes occurred in this literature as to
its social role, their circulation and distribution, their subjects and readers.
