Resumo:
The water availability for the human consumption is one of the biggest environmental
problems faced by the man. By virtue of that, researches are accomplished
with the objective of developing compact wastewater treatment systems, at reduced
costs, that produce an efluent in agreement with the established discard standards.
In this context, the activities related to the modelling, simulation and the automation
of a biological wastewater treatment plant with batch work flow are presented. Initially there was accomplished the sequence batchr eactors (SBR) modelling based on
the Activated Sludge Model No 1 and the Activated Sludge Systems Sedimentation
Multi-layers Model. This provided a good knowledge about the biological processes
that occurs in this type of system, facilitating the understanding of the experimental
results obtained. In the sequence is presented the development of a dynamic SBR
simulator, whose the simulation obtained results of three different operation configurations
plant, that allows the definition of the best control strategies to increasing
the performance of this system by means of the requested objectives. By the end, is
presented the automation of the pilot plants composed by two SBR’s, that provided
the automatic operation of the plant and the processes variables monitoring through
the use of a supervisory system.
