Abstract:
Lagoon of treatment of sewage are units built with the purpose of
promoting the treatment of domestic and / or industrial effluents through the performance
of microorganisms naturally present in the environment. Due to the large amount of
organic and inorganic compounds present, as well as heavy metals, these are one of the
main sources of contamination of soil and groundwater. In this sense, the present work
aims to numerically simulate the fluid dynamics behavior of the copper contaminant
plume (Cu) from the sewage treatment pond by using the ANSYS CFX 15.0 commercial
package. Mass conservation, linear momentum and transfer of matter equations were
simultaneously solved by adoption of monophasic and multi-component outflow, using
the software ANSYS CFX® 15, considering a two-dimensional porous medium and with
constant and uniformly distributed properties. Numerical results indicate that the
behavior of the plume of contaminant is influenced by the speed of the water horizontally
outflowing in a porous medium, and the permeability of the porous medium.
