The study aims to analyze the cytotoxic effect of ethanol extract of leaves of Arrabidaea pulchra (Cham.) Sandwith in an experimental model in vitro using the cell line of human prostate adenocarcinoma (PC-3), as well as qualify the presence of secondary metabolites through the phytochemical study of the same extract. The plant's leaves werecollected in the National Forestof Açu/RN, Brazil, and then dried, crushed andimmersedin absolute ethanolfor 48h, thesolution was thenevaporatedina rotary evaporator at55 °C. Phytochemical analysis of the extract wasperformed.Cellviability was tested throughtrypan blue exclusion testand thecytotoxicbioassaywas done by MTTassay using1000μg/mL,500μg/mLand 100μg/mL of the extract. Statistical analysis was performed by analysis of variance (ANOVA), two-way, followed byTukey's post-test ofmultiple comparison. Values of p≤0.05were considered significant. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presenceofthe following metabolites: condensed tannins and flavonoids. Extractconcentrations,500μg/mLand 100μg/mLshowed highercytostaticandcytotoxiceffectonthe prostate cancer cells, compared with thepositive control, containing5μg/mldoxorubicin.
