Resumo:
The Aspidosperma pyrifolium Mart species. popularly known as pereiro has wide dispersion across the savannah zone, being generally found in Ceara, Rio Grande do Norte, Pernambuco and Paraíba. The toxic potential of this species has been shown in the scientific literature. The aim of this study was to review the literature on natural and experimental poisoning with Aspidosperma pyrifolium. For this reason, research in LILACS, SciELO, Google Scholar, Journal of CAPES, PubMed and books about toxicity were performed. It was observed that studies have been significant toxicity to demonstrate that the direct cause significant changes (abortion, malformation, birth of weak animals) increasing the cost of production animals. However, there are no studies showing possible genetic changes caused by species.
