Resumo:
Education is the essential basis for an individual's formation, including higher education,
carried out in Brazil by federal institutes and universities. However, despite its
importance, it is noted that, in recent years, there has been an increasing number of interventions
policies and budget cuts in Brazilian public universities. Given the relevance
of public universities to society, this article has as its general objective
check which main activities were impacted by the budget cut in
Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG) on the Sumé Campus, the CDSA (Center for
Sustainable Development of the Semiarid Region). To this end, a qualitative approach was used
through a case study that aims to provide an experience of the reality of Campus Sumé,
The research is classified as documentary, bibliographic, exploratory and descriptive.
Furthermore, the instrument used in data collection was the structured interview. Therefore,
It is observed that these restrictions generally impacted all universities, from the
teachers to students, as well as other employees and outsourced workers; however,
specifically in the CDSA, the impacts felt in the development of its activities were
smaller, given the rigidity of managers in the face of pressure to reduce investments. Like this,
as a suggestion for future studies, it is suggested that the research be replicated on other campuses of the
UFCG, in order to find out whether this scenario is also observed in other institutions.
