Abstract:
Twenty-four ½ Boer and ½ Mixed-breed kids with average initial body weight of 15 kg were used to estimate body composition and the nutritional exigencies in protein, energy, calcium, phosphorus, sodium and potassium for weight gain on pasture in the semi-arid region. The experiment was developed at “Nupeárido” farm, in Patos-PB. The animals were distributed into four treatments with increasing levels of concentrate supplementation (0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5% of body weight) and maintained in semi-confinement system receiving supplementation
in individual stalls when they were gathered daily. When one of the animals of each group reached 30kg of body weigh, all the rest animals of the group were slaughtered after fast of 16 hours. Body composition varied from 185.3 to 184.0 g of protein; 53.0 to 120.2 g of fat; 1.642 to 2.356 Kcal of energy; 15.36 to 17.17 g of calcium; 8.16 to 8.24 g of phosphorus and 1.00 to 1.42 g of sodium and 1.23 g of potassium for kg of empty body. The net requirements in protein, energy, calcium, phosphorus and sodium for ½ Boer and ½ Mixed-breed kids under pasture in semi-arid in the growth phase have varied from 146 to 145 mg, 1.92 to 2.75 Kcal, 13.96 to 15.61 mg, 6.55 to 6.62 mg and 1.16 to 1.65 mg/g, and are of 0.98 mg of K by gram of gain for animals from 15 to 30 kg of weight body.
