Digital television is being successfully used in many countries. Aside from the technical advantages and the available services, when compared to the analog television, perhaps thecmain attribute that the Digital TV o ers is the interactivity. The return channel (or interactive
channel) is the way by which users can directly interact with the broadcasters, adding diversecpossibilities to the services already o ered by the digital television. Therefore, the return channelcis very important to provide interactivity to the Digital TV.cBrazil is investing in studies to de ne the strategy to transmit the return channel of the
national standard of digital television. One of the analyzed proposals suggests the use of powerclines (known as PLC Power Line Communications) to allow the transmission of interactivity. In this work, a data communication application is evaluated, based in the electrical network, as a solution for the return channel of digital television. Experiments in various environments have been carried out (residences, residential apartments, o ce, industry, laboratories) to analyze the viability of the transmission of the interactive channel by the electrical network.
